We went for a hike at High Falls on Father’s Day 2023. The main trail had been finished with new platforms and fencing right before a massive flood came in and moved the platforms. The main trail was closed at that time for safety reasons until the contractor can come back and fix it. It has since been reopened.
So we walked across the bridge and took the newly renovated path down to the road. Yes, we walked the old trail that was posted no hiking. It wasn’t an easy hike, and we didn’t go into the old power plant because it was fenced off. Though I took a picture of an old post that shows where the walking trail used to be.
You can easily access the power plant without walking through the woods by following the road down to the sign that points to a sweet little fishing spot and the bottom part of the power plant that shows the history of the place. It was pretty fascinating! You can drive it instead of walking if you have problems coming up a hill. It was a good little hike! If you’d rather drive down there with your fishing poles, it’s easy to get to. It was peaceful.
There is a large lake on the other side of the dam that has access to fishing, boating, kayaking, etc. Camping looks really nice there, and there are yurts for those who like to glamp. https://gastateparks.org/HighFalls has more information about what you’ve seen here.
